A mini-review for This is Soap, performed by the same cast as Shakespeare for Breakfast. An improvised soap opera with a story that has been progressing over the course of the Fringe, by its nature this show’s content varies every show.
The performance I saw demonstrated that each of the five members have a gifted eye for comic observation. There was also a high level of gay and Doctor Who-related content, which appealed to me on more levels than it might your average punter.
There were some moments that fell flat, as is natural in improv – anything that takes risks has to fail once or twice – and the actual “soap” content worked better than some of the Whose Line is it Anyway-style diversions. But overall,, the show demonstrated the versatility and comic abilities for the Shakespeare for Breakfast cast.
